General Information
For the past 43 years, the Clayton Diving Alliance has provided expert diving instruction to boys and girls, young and old, at the outdoor Shaw Park Pool in downtown Clayton, Missouri. At Clayton Diving, we coach complete beginners, intermediate divers, and advanced divers. Our younger athletes learn the proper fundamentals of diving; many of our older athletes excel at diving at the high-school level; our best divers compete on a national level against the top divers in the country. The bottom line, however, is that anyone interested in the sport of diving can participate in, and benefit from, Clayton Diving’s Summer Program.
This year’s 9-week Summer Program runs from June 5 to August 4. There are many different practices available each week. Please explore this website for more information regarding the Clayton Diving Summer Program. If you have any questions, feel free to contact coach Ron Hobbs at ron.hobbs@lathropgpm.com, or at 314-308-5525.
When you are ready to register for summer practices with Clayton Diving, please note the following. Those divers who are already on the Travel Team should register for summer diving practices under the “Team Registration” link on this website. We also have a separate registration link for college divers. All other divers should register for the Summer Program using the “Lessons and New Diver” link on this website.
We hope you will come enjoy a fantastic summer of outdoor springboard and platform diving at Clayton Shaw Park!
Practice Dates & Times
Clayton Diving Alliance’s 2020 Summer Diving Program will run from June 1 to August 7. All practices are outdoors at Clayton Shaw Park.
All of our summer practices are held from Monday through Friday, and most of the practice times are in the morning. We do have an afternoon practice available from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. every weekday afternoon, but that practice is generally for divers who are learning 3-meter springboard in addition to the 1-meter springboard, and it is based on demand.
Most of our available practice time at the Shaw Park Pool is in the morning; we run two different sessions of practices – an early-morning session, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., and a late-morning session, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During the morning practice time, we do not restrict either practice session to a certain group of divers. In other words, both the early-morning session and the late-morning session are available to beginner or intermediate divers, as well to as advanced Team or college divers. There will be different coaches on deck during each session to instruct different groups of divers. The Shaw Park Pool, with 4 diving springboards and 3 diving platforms, is big enough to accommodate a large group of divers; by allowing different groups with different skill levels to practice at the same time (with different coaches), we maximize the practice options available for our divers.
All of our specific practice times are listed under the REGISTRATION links on this website. Team divers are expected to practice five days/week. We strongly recommend a twice/day practice schedule for any Team divers over the age of 12. College divers pay one set fee for the summer, and then can dive as much as they want. For all other divers, we ask that they sign up for a minimum of 2 practices/week.
Cost
All of our practice-specific cost information is listed under the REGISTRATION links on this website. Note that there is a discount for families with multiple divers – a second child enrolled in the program gets a 20% discount; a third child enrolled gets a 30% discount, and so on.
Coaches
HEAD COACH CORTNEY TEAGUE: Cortney has coached for Clayton Diving since 2009. She grew up in Columbia, Missouri, and was a four-time All-State diver for Hickman High School. She continued to dive in college for the University of Missouri where she earned the Most Improved Diver Award her freshman and senior years. After college, Cortney ran the Columbia club team for four years and also coached the Hickman and Rock Bridge high-school teams. She took a little break from coaching to get married and begin raising two children. Cortney then moved to St. Louis and returned to coaching for Clayton Diving Alliance. In 2014, she began coaching the Clayton Diving competition team as well as coaching for Eureka High School. In 2019, Cortney began coaching for Lindenwood University; she has been coaching at Lindenwood ever since and helped the university transition to NCAA Division I in 2022.
The Shaw Park Pool
All of our summer practices are held at the beautiful Clayton Shaw Park Pool, which is an outdoor pool located in the middle of the Shaw Park, in the heart of downtown Clayton, Missouri. The Shaw Park Pool has a separate 48 x 75 foot diving well equipped with two 3-meter springboards and two 1-meter springboards, all on concrete stands, and with 5, 7.5, and 10-meter platforms. Plenty of deck space provides for excellent stretching, dryland, and exercise areas. There are many restaurants, shops, and hotels within easy walking distance of the pool.
Competitions
Every diver in Clayton Diving’s Summer Program will have at least one opportunity to compete. For the beginner, intermediate, and high-school divers, we will host one or more small competitions at Shaw Park or Pattonville. For our Team divers, we will be competing in the Zone Meet in June and, for those who qualify, the Nationals in August.
Directions and Parking
The Clayton Shaw Park Pool is located on Brentwood Boulevard, in Clayton, one mile north of the St. Louis Galleria. The address of the pool is 111 S. Brentwood Blvd., Clayton, Missouri 63105. The pool is easy to get to from Highway 170, from Ladue Road, from Clayton Road, and from Highway 40 or Highway 44.
There is metered parking on Brentwood Boulevard, in front of the pool. There is also free parking behind the pool, in the park. To get to the free parking, take Forsyth west from Brentwood Boulevard, and follow it behind the park and towards Clayton High School.
Miscellaneous
Carpool
If you are interested in a carpool to/from Shaw Park this summer, we are putting together a list of divers who want to carpool – please send an email to Ron Hobbs at ron.hobbs@lathropgpm.com.
Clayton’s Municipal Team
The City of Clayton runs a “municipal diving team” primarily, but not exclusively, for residents of Clayton. This team is coached by members of our coaching staff, and will compete against other municipal teams in the area. Because this team practices in the afternoons (through mid-July), municipal team members will also be able to dive with Clayton Diving in the morning. Please contact Ron Hobbs if you would like more information about this municipal team.
